On Sunday April 26th McQueeney VFD hosted nationally renowned instructor Battalion Chief Rob Backer who presented his acclaimed ” The Art Of Reading Smoke” class. Nearly 50 students from our area and surrounding departments including New Braunfels, Cibolo, Gonzales County, Nixon, Windcrest, Lake Dunlap, Sand Hills, and even Penitas, who made the trip all the way from Rio Grande Valley, met at the Guadalupe County Fire Field to hear his presentation. This class is extremely informative and dives deep into how to decipher the information the smoke is presenting to you when arriving at a structure fire. McQueeney Fire volunteers take their commitment to furthering their knowledge and education seriously, and this class was just one more example of how we strive to stay current on changing topics and skills in the fire service to best serve our citizens and community. This was one of 4 cities/dates that BC Backer conducted his class in this past week, and, all told, nearly 250 firefighters from across the state were able to take part and obtain this valuable information. We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to BC Backer for his time and making the trip to Guadalupe County and to all the departments who attended this class.
