Long Time McQueeney VFD Volunteer is Called Home

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of retired Assistant Chief Charles “Chuck” Hoagland, of the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department. Chuck, as he was known to his family, friends, and neighboring volunteer fire departments, began his firefighter/EMT career with the McQueeney VFD on December 10, 1980 after serving in the Navy for 8 years and retiring as a Lieutenant.
Chuck is one of the founding members of The McQueeney VFD and served the McQueeney community for 43 years. Chuck currently holds the record for the longest career as a volunteer firefighter/EMT in Guadalupe County.
For those that have ever experienced an emergency in our community; it is very probable that Chuck was first on scene. He was very knowledgeable, determined, and above all selfless. We looked up to Chuck and always took his opinions and feedback with high regard and trust. Many of the EMT’s that have volunteered and currently volunteer for The McQueeney VFD were trained by Chuck. His sense of humor, boldness, leadership and above all his presence will be greatly missed. Please keep the Hoagland family in your prayers as they navigate through this difficult time.
Charles “Chuck” Hoagland EOW 4-27-23
Rest easy brother, we got it from here.
Respectfully,
The Members of the McQueeney VFD

Chuck’s memorial was held on Thursday, May 4th at McQueeney Baptist Church. The hearse bearing Chuck from Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin to the church in McQueeney was escorted by a huge procession of fire department vehicles from departments from the surrounding area including Seguin, New Braunfels, Lake Dunlap, Geronimo, Marion, New Berlin and others, as well as motorcycles from the Brothers in Arms Motorcycle Club and many private vehicles. The ceremony at the church included rites by uniformed military and fire and rescue representives and Amazing Grace performed by the Combined Emergency Services Organizations Pipes and Drums Corp.
Thank you to the Seguin Gazette for sharing their photos with the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department!
