Six volunteer firefighters from the McQueeney VFD participated in the 9/11 Memorial Climb at the Alamodome on Wednesday, September 11th. The climb honors the 343 firefighters that lost their lives on September 11th, 2001 attempting to rescue victims of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York City. In addition to the firefighters that perished that day, 70 law enforcement officers and 9 EMS personnel lost their lives as well. The participants wore full gear and carried the badge number of a first responder who died in the line of service that day. Their trips up and down the bleachers at the Alamo Dome represent the 110 floors of the towers that the first responders had to climb that day to reach the victims. It is estimated that 2,977 Americans lost their lives on that day in multiple terrorist attacks.
