McQueeney Volunteers Pay Homage to 9/11 Fallen

A group of McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department first responders participated in climbs to honor those fallen in the terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York and on our nation’s capital on 9/11 in 2001. Some members climbed the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio. Another group climbed the bleachers at the Seguin High School stadium. Participants of both wore full bunker gear and carried oxygen tanks. The purpose was to replicate the heroism of the more than 400 fire fighters and law officers that perished as they tried to save lives that day.

Participants from the McQueeney VFD were

Juan Armenta, Juan Garza, Stephen Talavera, Jonathan Dominguez, Ramon Silva, Michael Hildebrand and Josh Poteet. Great job guys! We’re so proud of you!

McQueeney Volunteers Thrill Community With Exhibit and Tours of Department Vehicles

The McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department showed up in force on Saturday, August 17th, at the Country Church in Marion for it’s third annual “Touch a Truck” exhibit. Dozens of vehicles of all kind participated in the show: fire trucks, garbage trucks, cement trucks, cranes, ladder trucks–and many more! Children in attendance were allowed to crawl into the vehicles, and see how they worked. They also were allowed to try on the safety gear that the various personnel use on a regular basis. The church provided food and drinks as well as a handmade quilt raffle. Thanks to all those that brought out trucks and withstood the extreme heat to show the children a good time, and thanks to the parents who gave their children this opportunity.

Note to parents: If you wish to have your child’s picture removed from this post, please contact Marilyn at mmarshall5583@gmail.com and the photo will gladly be deleted.

Crawfish Boil Enjoyed by All

“Mud bugs” was the menu special last Saturday at the Off The Clock Bar in Schumannsville as the McQueeney VFD held a crawfish boil fundraiser that afternoon. Almost 1000 pounds of crawfish, potatoes, corn and sausage plus hamburgers and hot dogs were prepared by the McQueeney volunteers and consumed by supporters from the community. The meal was accompanied by a silent auction, a bake sale and a display of the department’s firetrucks. McQueeney VFD would like to thank all those who partook of the meal and also those who donated auction items and made other monetary donations to the department. A special thanks to GVEC who donated two PortaCool units for the event.

McQueeney Volunteers Train Hard

It is probably little known and underappreciated how hard our volunteers work to prepare themselves for the variety of situations they have to deal with on a regular basis. Training takes place three Monday evenings each month, plus often times on weekends and other weekdays. Often they jointly train with other area departments. Training includes medical, fire and other emergency situations. Please thank and praise these members for their selfless dedication to the welfare of our community!
